Webkinz are stuffed animals that were originally released by the Ganz company on April 28, 2005. The toys are similar to many other small plush toys, however they come with a special code on their labels that allows access to the "Webkinz World" which is a website to "adopt" a virtual version of the pet for virtual interaction.

After you first 'adopt' your pet, you start off with 2000 "kinzcash" that you can spend on food, decorations, etc. You also get three gifts and a special food that is made especially for your pet (example: the dalmation gets Firehouse Chili). There are daily games (Wheel of Wow, similar to Wheel of Fortune, Curio's Shop, and more) where you can play once a day (the employment office is every 8 hours) and get rare items. Everyday, there is a Game of the Day where you get a bonus of the Kinzcash. Every month, there is the "Pet of the Month" where anyone with the pet that is the Pet of the Month, they can get special items and/or special bonus not available any other time.

A person can decorate their room and purchase more rooms. There are themes for rooms, like the Atlantis theme, or the person can randomly decorate their room.

Occasionally there are recipes that are released to be found out by players. Some are only for season when others are year-round.
