When buying a home, there are three important factors
to consider; location, style and cost.
Location
The location of your potential purchase depends primarily
on where you work and whether you want to commute. It may also depend on
your family lifestyle. How close are your children’s
schools? Is public transportation available? Do you want to live near recreation
facilities? Or shopping?
If you are considering purchasing a home in a certain
area, take the time to drive or walk around the area, both during the day
and in the evening. It’s also a good idea to travel the route to and from
your place of employment.
There are other factors to consider when choosing the
location of your home. For example, have property values risen or fallen
in the area? Also, future development can affect property values and property
taxes. You’ll want to consider if there are any changes to zoning proposed
or are there major developments being planned that may affect your property.
Features
What style of home do you wish to purchase? It’s a good idea to draw
up a list of all the features you want or need your home to have. You must
be honest about what you are looking for, but also be open-minded and realistic:
your dream may change based on what is available and what you can afford.
The home you eventually choose may not be the home you have dreamed of but
rather the home that you can comfortably afford and that will meet your needs.
You should consider such questions as:
- How many bedrooms will you need?
- How many bathrooms are required?
- Will you need a single or double car garage?
- Do you want an eat-in kitchen?
- Do you want a separate dining room?
- Do you want a family room?
- Do you want a large yard, or a smaller lot?
