According to our ECU Fraud Analyst, there are a number of easy ways for you to protect yourself and your bank account! 🔒

1. Take it back to the basics by combating online fraud through password protection. Whether your password protects a simple email account or a high-value bank account, it’s important to create complex passwords that include a variety of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

2. In a world of digital banking, a physical cheque may seem like the safest option when sharing payment with family or contractors, but in reality, even the cheque-cashing system can be taken advantage of. Once a cheque has been issued, be sure to monitor your account for potential duplicate withdrawals.

3. While fraud has evolved to include complex online scams, it’s important to remember that theft can still occur close to home. By leaving your wallet or ID in your vehicle or in an easily accessible public area, thieves don’t need to use elaborate methods to obtain your information but can simply steal your bank cards and use tap technology to go on a spending spree.
