Travel Notification Program

To help fight against debit card fraud, Education Credit Union has implemented a country blocking program. When you have plans to travel outside of Canada, and intend to use your MEMBER CARD® debit card, let us know.

To ensure continued access to your funds when outside of Canada, please notify us at least 3 business days before you leave and we will ensure your cards are unblocked for your destination.

What is country blocking?

The Travel Notification program involves blocking the use of debit/payment cards in certain locations outside of Canada where debit card fraud is most frequently occurring in order to prevent fraudulent activity and protect the money in members' accounts.

Doesn't CHIP card technology prevent fraud?

Although CHIP cards have drastically reduced fraud within Canada, fraudulent activity continues to rise in countries that have not implemented the technology. As a result, Canadian credit unions are taking a proactive approach and are placing blocks on countries were high rates of fraudulent activity occur, including some US states.
